The mission of the FSU Heritage Protocol is to locate, identify, record,
assist in the preservation of, and promote knowledge about the heritage
of Florida State University and its predecessor institutions. Students,
faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and friends have expressed this
heritage through published, unpublished, audio, and visual materials,
memorabilia and ceremonial objects.
Goals
To ensure the preservation of heritage objects identified through the survey
To create an interactive web site containing the survey database to share with anyone interested in researching the history of the university
To create a virtual museum of items that best represent the FSU heritage to share with our students, faculty, staff, administrators, friends, and alumni throughout the world
Objectives
Survey all departments, schools, programs, institutes, research centers, offices, and student organizations to identify items and their current locations
Create a database containing a detailed record for each item, or set of items, identified through the survey
Record each item through digital imaging (if possible) and link the image(s) to the item's database record
For items which are digital only (e.g., department history web sites), create a link from the database record to the original item
Assist in identifying recommended practices for the physical preservation of each item in its current location, or recommend transfer to an appropriate repository to insure its long term preservation
Create a public interactive web site for accessing the survey database with its images and links to relevant university web sites
Create a public interactive virtual museum of the most representative heritage items
